How can we help?
Answers to the most common questions are below. If yours isn’t, send us a message and we’ll reply by email.
Getting started
What do I need?
An iPhone with iOS 26. Lessons, listening, verbs, review, the level test and the dictionary work on any such iPhone. Open-ended conversations and Chat need Apple Intelligence enabled on a supported iPhone, in a supported language and region. Prepared rehearsals and checked lesson conversations work without it. Naming things in photos also needs iOS 27. See what works where.
Where should I start?
Complete beginners start at A1. If you already know some of the language, open Progress and take the level test: about 5 to 15 minutes, and it suggests where to begin.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the voices and speech model for your language have downloaded (Linguette offers this the first time).
Conversations
I can’t see Chat or a “Start conversation” button.
Open-ended conversations need Apple Intelligence. Check that your iPhone supports it, that it’s on in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri, and that it has finished downloading (this can take a while the first time, ideally on Wi-Fi and power). Then reopen Linguette: the conversations appear by themselves. Lessons and prepared practice remain available meanwhile.
It isn’t hearing me.
Make sure Linguette has microphone access in Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone, and that no call or other app is using the microphone. You can always switch to typing from the conversation screen.
The tutor said something wrong or odd.
The tutor is AI and can make mistakes. Touch and hold the reply, then choose Report this reply: your email app opens with the reply quoted, so we can improve it. The course lessons, translations and answer checks were also generated and reviewed using AI, and can contain errors. They have not yet been reviewed by a native speaker. For a course error, send us the lesson and wording. Read our AI disclosure and credits.
Voices
The voices sound robotic.
Download an Enhanced or Premium voice for your language in the iPhone Settings app under Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices. Linguette › Settings › Tutor voices shows which voice each tutor uses and links to these steps.
Backups and new iPhones
Is my progress backed up?
Yes, as part of your normal iCloud or computer backup of your iPhone. For an extra copy you control, open Settings › Backup › Back up my learning and save the file, for example to iCloud Drive.
How do I restore a backup?
On a new iPhone, tap Restore from a backup on the first screen; or in Settings › Backup › Restore from a backup. Choose your file, then close Linguette from the app switcher and open it again to finish. Your previous data is set aside on the iPhone rather than deleted.
Is the backup file private?
It isn’t encrypted, so keep it somewhere private.
Your data
How do I delete everything?
Settings › Your data › Delete all my data removes your progress, conversations, recordings, settings and reminder from your iPhone. Deleting the app does the same. See the privacy policy for details.
Something went wrong. What should I send?
In Settings › Diagnostics you can share Linguette’s crash reports and error log with us. They contain technical details, not your conversations, and are only sent if you choose to share them.
