Last updated 15 October 2026 · Linguette, published by Strataic Ltd

The short version. Linguette has no account, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking. Everything you do in the app is stored on your iPhone, and the tutor, speech recognition and voices run on your iPhone too. Nothing you practise is sent to us or to anyone else.

Who we are

Linguette is an app published by Strataic Ltd (“we”, “us”), company number 15864357, registered in England and Wales at Bee House, 140 Eastern Avenue, Milton, Abingdon, England, OX14 4SB.

The data you keep in Linguette stays on your device. We do not receive it, hold it or have access to it, so we are not a data controller for it. Under UK data protection law, Strataic Ltd is the data controller only for correspondence you choose to send us and for the limited information involved in running this website.

What is stored on your iPhone

Linguette keeps the following in its private storage on your iPhone. None of it is sent to us.

This data is included in your normal iCloud or computer backups of your iPhone, under Apple’s terms. Deleting the app removes it from your iPhone.

On-device processing

Speech recognition, the on-device tutor (Apple Intelligence), the spoken voices, translation and naming things in photos all run on your iPhone. Apple may download language models and voices to your device to make these work; that download does not include your practice. Photos you pick to name things are read on the device and are not stored or sent anywhere.

Permissions and features

FeatureWhat it uses and why
MicrophoneSpoken conversations, dictated answers and speaking practice. Audio is turned into text on your iPhone. Typing works everywhere if you say no.
PhotosOnly the photo you pick, to name what is in it. Linguette does not get access to your library.
NotificationsOnly if you turn on the daily reminder. It is scheduled on your iPhone.
WidgetShows your streak and today’s study time from a small summary kept on your iPhone.
Reporting a replyIf you report a tutor reply, your email app opens with the reply quoted. Nothing is sent unless you send that email.

Backups and diagnostics

You can export a Linguette backup file in Settings. It contains your data, including recordings, and is saved wherever you choose, such as Files or iCloud Drive. The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere private. Restoring a backup replaces what is on your iPhone; the replaced data is kept on the device until you delete it.

Diagnostics (crash reports from iOS and Linguette’s short error log) stay on your iPhone unless you choose to share them with us. They contain technical details, not your conversations.

Apple

Apple handles App Store downloads and any future purchases under its own privacy policy. If you have chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us aggregated crash and usage statistics that do not identify you.

This website

This website does not use cookies or analytics. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security. If you use the contact or support form, your message is processed by Formspree and delivered to us by email.

Deleting your data and your rights

In the app, Settings › Delete all my data removes your progress, conversations, recordings, settings, reminders and widget summary from your iPhone.

For correspondence you send us, you have the right under UK data protection law to ask for a copy, a correction or deletion, and to object to how we use it. We keep correspondence only as long as needed to help you, and normally no longer than two years. You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Linguette is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will appear here and in the app with a new date.
